iPhone Air Bumper Review: Worth the Money?

iPhone Air Bumper Review: Worth the Money?

For the first time since the iPhone 4, Apple has made a Bumper for one of its iPhones, and to no one’s surprise, it’s the iPhone Air that gets it. If you have purchased the iPhone Air and are looking to get the Bumper, this article is for you. Here’s my review of the iPhone Air case.

Packaging and design

The iPhone Air Bumper comes in a quality cardboard box. You can see the case design on top and access it by tearing open the pull tab and sliding the case out.

I purchased the case in Tan color, which matches my Gold iPhone Air. The first impression of the case is that it’s quite sleek and feels a bit slippery.

Putting the iPhone Air inside the case can be a bit of a chore if you don’t do it properly. The proper way to do it is to hold the case and fit the iPhone in it from the top. Start by sliding the top two corners into the case, then gently push in the bottom two corners.

The cașe fit is perfect. You don’t have to worry about the case flying out when you drop your iPhone. Looking around the case, you can see the Side button and Camera Control button on the right side. The Camera Control button works flawlessly, registering swipes, touch, and presses without issue.

Here’s a look at the case from the top. As you can see, the camera sticks a lot farther from the case. While the lip provides coverage over the display and back glass panel, the camera remains exposed. If you have a habit of using your phone on the table, there’s a chance the camera lens will get dirty and even get minor scratches.

At the bottom, you’ll find precise cutouts for the charging port and microphone, plus holes for a lanyard or Apple’s new crossbody strap.

iPhone Air Bumper: in-hand feel

The case feels a little slippery in the hand, but not enough to make it a drop risk. It’s also extremely light, weighing only 12 grams. That said, the bumper adds more width to the iPhone Air than the clear case or the Beats case, which makes it feel more substantial.

I also don’t like the fact that buttons feel mushier. I really don’t like using these buttons, and honestly, I wouldn’t recommend this case for that reason alone.

iPhone Air Bumper review: final thoughts

I do not recommend buying the iPhone Air Bumper case for most users. You should only buy it if you are looking to get that naked iPhone look. To most other users, I recommend the iPhone Air Beats case, which is arguably a better choice.
