iPadOS 26 Has A Fatal Flaw - You Can Help!

When Apple announced iPadOS 26 on stage at WWDC 2025, I was thrilled, as it finally got background task processing. Apple also added a new multitasking system with fully-resizable windows and Menu Bar support, bringing the iPad closer to macOS. However, after installing and testing the iPadOS 26, I found that there’s a fatal flaw.

In this guide, I will explain what it is and how you can help to hopefully resolve it.

iPadOS 26: the big problem

You see, I use iPad Pro as my main writing device. I open Ulysses in full view to get a distraction-free writing environment and keep all my research, upcoming task, and music app in Slide Over mode. This lets me focus on the work at hand, while keeping all the other apps within my reach.

While Apple has retained the full window mode in iPadOS 26, the Slide Over apps are nowhere to be found. This is the big flaw of iPadOS 26. Slide Over apps are integral to how I work and if you also use them, the new update will feel disappointing.

With Slide Over, Apple also removed the Split View feature. Yes, you can still tile two windows side-by-side, but the process is not as smooth and requires you to switch to Windowed Apps view.

Even if you do that, there’s a gap in the middle, which eats the precious pixels on my smaller 11-inch iPad Pro. On the Mac, at least you get a setting to remove margins from tiled windows, something which is missing in iPadOS 26.

How can you help?

I hope this is a bug, but if it’s not, this is where you can help. If you have updated your iPad to iPadOS 26, you will find a Feedback app on your iPad. Launch the app, log in with your Apple ID, and you will see something like this.

Feedback App

Tap the compose button and select the iOS & iPadOS option. Now, fill the feedback form and send it to Apple.

It’s unlikely that Apple will reverse course after a few round of updates, but if enough of us send the feedback so early in development, we might have a chance.
